FFA 233 -> Photoshop exercise! Adding shades and light.

So, recently, we learned a bit more on techniques on how to do shade and lighting in photoshop. It's quite simple (sort of...).

And I'm gonna show how to do that on this picture below.

First things first, open the selected image in photoshop. Determine where's the dark area and where's the light source. Judging from the picture, there are three light sources, coming from three different lamps.

Secondly, add a new layer above the picture and set it to 'multiply' mode. Choose a soft brush and change the setting on opacity and flow. Keep it low, (but not too low) and also choose a dark color (preferably the darkest black). Then, start spreading on the canvas, where you think is the darkest area. Play with the layer's opacity to get the right shade.

Seems dark now, right?

If you want to add more dark shades, go on. Just add another layer above it, set it to 'multiply' and add the small details. Same techniques as above.

Thirdly, the lights. Add a new layer and set it to 'overlay'. Using the same brush, choose a lighter colour instead to have that glowy effect. Then, spread it under the light source and where ever the light will touch an illuminate the area.

You can even add some texture by pasting another photo of texture on the selected area.

And, we should have something like this!

So yeah. That's for a picture with three different lights and different area. How about a room on a sunny day and an open curtain from a big window? The technique is pretty much similar. Just need to know where to put it.
